In my reading group I am doing a project about what career I want when I grow up.So all the teachers that are visiting the blog please try to answer them. These questions are for anyone especially for my teacher Mr.Lewis and for any other teacher.

QUESTIONS FOR BEING A TEACHER
  1. What do you like about your job?
  2. How did you get interested in this job?
  3. How much money do you get paid for being a teacher?
  4. Is being a teacher hard if it is what is so hard about it?
  5. What kinds of things do you do except for teaching?
  6. Would you think this is a right job for me?
  7. What kind of school would you think would be better for you and what grade?
  8. If you had the opportunity to be a principal of your own school would you take it, if yes then why would you take the opportunity?

1. I love this school (Alsup), the other teachers and the students.
2. I realized how much I enjoy helping students learn when I was coaching.
3. Not very much. You can ask Mr. Lewis. We all get paid differently according to our experience and education.
4. The hardest part about teaching is having patience and empathy when everything goes wrong.
5. I don't understand this question.
6. Alexis, I think you would be a wonderful teacher.
7. I think I am in the best position right now.
8. It is early in my career, but I would probably take the position because I enjoy being challenged.

Great questions Alexis! I really like how you used open-ended questions so people will give you more than a yes or no answer.

Teaching is a good job for any person who enjoys working with children, and helping them learn. I first became interested when I worked as a nanny for a family.

Working with students can be a challenge sometimes. The more prepared the teacher is to give a lesson, the less challenging the class will be.

Good luck with your project! Remember, you can do anything you want to! Never say never!

I really like working with kids. Its great to teach something and see you learn it and be excited about learning. As a teacher, you have to enjoy teaching because you don't make a lot of money doing it. Teaching can be hard, but the really great lessons are the ones that are really simple. Especially the ones where I don't have to talk much and the students do all the work. I do all kinds of things besides teaching. I have two kids so they keep me really busy. Although, the last time I had a day off, I was in my daughter's kindergarten class making gingerbread houses! I am looking forward to skiing when we have winter break. I am really happy at Alsup and I couldn't imagine teaching anything but third or fourth grade. Fifth might be fun... I don't think I will ever be a principal. I like the classroom, but sometimes life takes you in crazy directions.

Alexis you can do whatever you want, I am glad you are considering teaching. You would be a great teacher. But keep in mind that you are young and have lots of time to decide. I wonder what else you might be considering as a career? What other jobs interest you?

I like teaching at Alsup because I have students who really care about doing the best artwork they can possibly do. The best thing in the world is to see a student accomplish a skill they never thought they'd get by applying what they've learned and solving an aesthetic problem.
Teaching has always interested me because knowledge needs to be continuously passed on in order for people to survive: we are part of the human continuum.
Money is only a small part of teaching. Teachers teach because they understand its necessity. That, and most of the time it really is fun!
Some days it is very hard, but I always go home feeling as though I've accomplished something important.
I am a professional artist. I've sold my paintings for many years, and even have an illustrated calligraphy picture at the United Nations building in New York. I also love the outdoors, and I hike and snowshoe.
Alexis, you would be a terrific teacher because you ask great questions and then you think about the answers.
There is no better school. Also, I'm lucky that, as a specials teacher, I get to work with a lot of different age and skill levels.
No way would I like to be a principal! Being in the classroom is way more fun. Because you work for so much of your life, it's really important to find a career that is always interesting and genuinely fun most of the time.

I really like the people and students I work with everyday. I also love that everyday is different. As others have said every teacher gets paid different amounts. Being a teacher can be challenging. I think making sure I am patient all the time and with every student can be hard. I think if you want to be a teacher you definitely can be! I enjoy Alsup and teaching 3rd grade. I don't think I would enjoy being principal even if I had the opportunity. Good luck with this project!

Alexis,

I hope you are getting some good information from teachers!

1. I love so many things about my job! Working with students and getting to know them, watching them learn about the world around them, and all of the wonderful people I get to work with.

2. I got interested in being a teacher because it seemed like a good way to try to make the world a better place for people to live. It also uses many of the skills I have. Constantly learning new things and being challenged make me happy, so I wanted a job that could do that for me.

3. I get paid a little more than $40,000 per year. Also I try to do extra work. It might sound like a lot, but after I pay all my bills there is not much left over. I am a teacher because I love the work, not because I am making a lot of money. What is more important to you? Having a job you love, or making a lot of money?

4. I find the hardest thing about teaching to be the lack of time for getting everything done.

5. I like to do many things besides teach. I love backpacking and hiking in the summer. In the winter I enjoy snowshoeing and crocheting. What do you like to do?

6. I agree with Mr. Lewis. You have a lot of time to figure out what kind of career you'd like to have. As you grow up you can figure it out and try new things. Getting a good education will be the most important thing for you and for whatever career you decide on.

7. I love this school and this grade level.

8. Someday I might love being a principal. But right now, I love teaching.

1. I love the challenge of reaching different students in different ways.
2. I was volunteering with children who were hard of hearing and deaf and realized that I loved those who were unique.
3. Staring salary at most districts in Colorado are at 31,000 per year and go up about 1,000-1,500 every year.
4. Being a teacher is not hard. Watching people treat each other badly is hard-children who are very sick; teachers who do not know how to teach children with learning disabilities; conflicts with school personel; parents who want but do not have the skills/resources to give their children a better life. These are things that are hard to deal with.
5. I've never expected anything. In fact, I don't expect my students to remember me after the year. I would like for my students to remember a math skill or a reading strategy somewhere down the line that I showed them.
6. I don't know who you are but if you have a calling to teach and you find yourself helping others outside of school-teaching might be for you. The best thing that I can suggest, is to volunteer in a classroom and see what you think.
7. I love year round, k-8th grade special education.
8. I would never be principle. It would take me out of the classroom-away from the curriculum and the students.

I am a teacher in New Zealand so things may be a little different over here.

I like my job because I can pretty much set our own pace for it. If we feel like going outside for a game we can. It is not too fenced in by a timetable. (I am a primary school teacher though).

I generally like being around kids- they have a sparkle that adults don't have so much.

I like opening my classroom walls and connecting with other kids in other classrooms.

Our school holidays are on at the moment and holidays are GREAT.

Teaching is pretty full on most of the time and there is a lot of work to be done in the evenings getting ready for the next day and preparing stuff but some days you can leave school early and go shopping!!

I teach 8-9 year olds and they are a cool age to teach- not too little and not too big- just right.

I was a principal for a short while but it was a bit boring.

You write well so I think you would make a good teacher- it is good if teachers like to read and write- and do maths!!!

All the best for your career in the future.
